She grew up in Stutterheim and is fluent in English, isiXhosa & Afrikaans. On 20 March 2004 she married John Richardson, who farms with sheep, cattle & alfalfa. They have two daughters, both in East London: Jenna is a 2nd year B ED student & Intern Teacher at Clarendon Girls’ Primary School. Kayla is in Grade 11 at Lilyfontein School. Both her grandmothers & mother were WAA members of the Border Circle – her Mom served as Agriculture convenor for many years at the once-active Bolo branch. As a child, she remembers with great excitement going to meetings & how her Mom would sew herself new outfits before Conference & Congress!
Her hobbies are walking, running, mountain biking, gardening, reading, sewing, & interior decorating. She has a BTECH degree, Diploma in Business Management & Computers, Security Officers qualifications, Certificate in Interior Decorating, Certificate in Tourism, and Certificate in Social Media Marketing. Adele was also SGB member at Queenstown Girl’s High School.
Adele joined WAA in 2009, and has been on Sterkstroom Committee since 2010. She has filled the Chairlady position for over 8 years & Vice Chairlady for 7 years. She has been Convenor of Education, Public Affairs and now Art & Craft. Been on NEC Committee since 2017, filled Education portfolio as well as Competition secretary. In 2015 Adele won Business Woman of the Year Award from WAA/VLV (Small Business Category). “It was an opportunity I grabbed to enter and has since opened many doors for me, professionally.”
Adele was Member of the Business Woman’s Association and in 2021-2023 Vice Chairperson of Queenstown Girl’s High School School Governing body.
Adele’s view of the WAA, is to reintegrate the importance of modernizing the Organization to stay relevant for younger members but at the same time take a moment to appreciate all our members who have laid foundations for us. As the President of NEC, I would like to play a more public role, in telling people what the WAA is about, making it an appealing organization for young & old.
