De la Haye starting the year of with a bang

 

 

We started the evening of with singing “Pollie ons gaan Paarl toe” to celebrate out Afrikaans heritage.

 

Our speakers for the evening was Marise Breet, a Biokineticist.

She spoke about:

-Metabolic Syndrome. (High blood pressure, cholesterol, Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes, Excess weight around the waist)

– Best exercise: aerobic exercises 5x per week for 60 minutes.

– Arthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatism, Lupus and Fibromyalgia.

– Best exercises for arthritis: Flexibility – exercise with elastic bands with 2-3 repetitions.

– Best exercises for osteoporosis – Avoid weight-bearing exercises. Walk 3-5 times / week for 20 minutes maximum.

– Best exercises for Lupus, rheumatism – Slow due to inflammation. Start with 5 minutes. Build up to 30 minutes.

 

Marise shows us some practical chair exercises.

– we practice hip stability,

– mini squats, calves, Isometric work,

– upper body rotation, posture and legs.

 

Everybody could feel the burn after just these few exercises.
