The highlight was this king size Madiba blanket!

Today is “Blocks for Blikkies Day” and four WAA members – Rina Kotzé (Cape Town Circle President), Edith Lumpe, Erna Krüger and Erna de Waal take to the road leading to Delft.  They are quite apprehensive since this area is known for the wrong reasons and quite unknown to them.

We also looked in at the “knitting area” where women of Blikkiesdorp were sitting knitting Madiba blankets.  They had to be taught the skills of knitting first, so that they can be empowered to teach others in return. Subsequently they broadened the group who get together every Friday to knit. They intend to keep this project going all through the winter.

To each WAA member that knitted a block or more:  Your handiwork ensured a warm night to one needy person, be it a baby, a child, a grown-up or a granny. Thanks to everyone who participated in this project that was initiated by Dr. Sandra Marais of Stellenbosch.  It was a privilege to be able to make a difference!

This mother was very happy when she received a blanket for her baby.

What a joy to get a present like this in your old age!
