At the Lifestyle meeting the branch had a competition of a Vanilla Butter Cake judged by Mr. Izak van Heerden, a retired man who has come to live in the district. He worked in the bakery section of Bloemfontein Spar for many years. He then went on to give some very useful tips on the baking of a Butter Cake and hints on what the judge is looking for while judging baked goods. Annemarie Moorcroft demonstrated an Ice Cream Maker and various other useful household gadgets. Megan Moorcroft demonstrated the making of a shopping bag, and Amanda Oelofse gave a talk on the correct style of coat to wear for your figure type. The ladies were asked to bring their favourite coat with them to the meeting which we all put on. Izak commented on each one individually – if it was the correct style, colour, length etc – and great fun was had by all. The ladies all went away with a better idea of what style of coat to buy in future.

Megan Moorcroft and her band of helpers packed 1 ton of dried peaches for the NEC circle fund raising project. The peaches had to be packed from 25kg bags into 1kg packets. Megan and Circle secretary Isabel du Toit of Lady Grey organized the delivery of the peaches which the manager of the local BKB branch kindly allowed them to have delivered to her showroom. Sandra Prins who owns the Horseshoe Inn kindly allowed the ladies to do the packing in her kitchen. Megan organized a group of ladies who kindly agreed to help with the packing and they soon had a production line going and with much chatting and joking. They got the job done. They managed to pack the peaches in about 10 hours over two days! The peaches now have to be delivered to the various branches – which are also quite an undertaking!
